Gender-Based Violence and Land Formalization in Colombia
How do we better ensure that women are not left worse off after Land Tenure formalization campaigns?
From February 21-25th, a Global Land Alliance team comprised of Laura Restrepo and Maribel Arguello visited the small villages of Tierra Grata and Chafurry in the Puerto Lleras municipality, which is in the larger Meta department of Colombia.
Here, GLA went with government officials and staff from the Land from Prosperity (LFP) program to gather information on, and test, a methodology for identifying instances of informal and/or secondary spouses and, furthermore, gender-based violence, including economic violence, against women.
Based on findings from this and other trips, GLA will provide the Land For Prosperity (Colombia) program with recommendations on how to identify and incorporate these populations and their rights into large-scale parcel sweeps.
