About Global Land Alliance
Our Mission
The mission of Global Land Alliance is to enable the sustainable prosperity of people and places by advancing learning and practice of land governance to achieve healthy relationships with land, life and natural resources, emphasizing local and Indigenous knowledge.
Our Vision
Global Land Alliance has a vision for world where local people and communities have control-of and access-to their land, property and housing: which in turn creates a more socially just, economically prosperous, and environmentally sustainable world.
We understand that communities know their land most intimately, and that rights-based approaches that center local empowerment, inclusion, participation and consent are key to improve land governance agendas. Global Land Alliance develops relationships with communities, organizations and governments to bridge knowledge and practice.
Enabling Sustainable Prosperity Through Land Tenure Security
At Global Land Alliance, we believe land and natural resources are at the heart of improving the human condition across Sustainable Development Goals. Problems affecting existential topics such as climate, gender, food security, racial- and social justice, biodiversity, forest, poverty reduction, conflict reduction & peace-building, and urbanization, have land and natural resources rights at their core.
Therefore, access to-, and security of-, land and natural resources combined with good governance enables sustainable prosperity for people and places.
We see GLA as a hub for catalyzing processes of participation, governance, and knowledge-sharing at each stage of land in development:
How We Work
Global Land Alliance aims to develop, use and contribute “think tank” solutions derived from on-the-ground perspectives of individuals, community leaders and businesses, and to help channel these solutions toward practical implementation at scale. By scaling up solutions of land issues, GLA sets the foundation for improved results.
Global Land Alliance allies with community groups, and local, national, and international entities to address the land tenure and land use challenges of cities, rural areas, and forests. GLA seeks positive disruption of status quo situations which perpetuate tenure insecurity and poverty, the misuse of resources and the suppression of local initiatives. GLA works with a wide array of groups to promote local consensus and action, manage knowledge, drive accountability, and develop long-term capacities in service of socially inclusive and ecologically-grounded development.
Our Advantage
► Agile. We are a flexible organization with a wide geographic scope and ability to engage from many locations-specific entry points with varying approaches.
► Independent. We are not part of any organization (firm, university, public structure, international agency) which might limit flexibility to strategic deployment of resources and to establish partnerships for effective innovation.
► Small core team. Our small core team works together with alliances to create a uniquely wide-ranging capacity while maintaining a hands-on engagement.
► Alliance-based. We work in flexible alliances with key partners who have established, long-term relationships with Global Land Alliance core team members.
