GLA Supports Collective Efforts Promoting CLT Initiatives In Brazil
Earlier this month, Global Land Alliance’s Executive Director submitted an open letter, joining a collective voice promoting Brazilian State support for CLT initiatives, and influence representatives to take supportive measures to affordable housing and long-term community-building, development and/or guarantee of rights.
This letter will be delivered as part of our advocacy efforts to public authorities and technical advisors, serving as a way to get their attention and highlight the proven potential of CLTs. It will also have the effect of bringing to their attention the important work of the international network of CLTs and community-led housing movement.
In the past several years, the Community Land Trust is now officially recognized as a recommended path to affordable housing by one Brazilian municipality that legislated CLTs as part of their Master Plan and was listed as a recommended solution in a major manifesto by civil society organizations across Brazil to influence housing and urban policy at the national level. The potential of CLTs to guarantee affordable housing and community development is increasingly recognized across the country.
With a new, and friendlier, administration in Brazil, we hope that the secure land and housing initiative can be prioritized under the CLT model.
We thank the leadership of our alliance partners Catalytic Communities for their work to advance sustainable, community-led prosperity for people and places
