Gender Equity and Inclusion Must Be Centered for Just Land Governance
In Colombia, as part of the Land for Prosperity program:
GLA has developed a protocol for identifying and referring cases of Gender Based Violence in the context of land formalization activities that take place as part of LFP's Massive Parcel Sweep.
GLA has developed a methodology for identification and legal analysis of cases where successive and/or simultaneous informal unions can negatively impact a woman's right to land. The analysis yields a set of legal arguments that support the woman's case for her land rights.
Through these two tools, GLA is laying out the intricate connection between Gender Based Violence and women's land rights.
On the gender-related agenda
GLA continues to explore the phenomenon where women in informal unions and in unconventional unions (such as second wives in non polygamous societies) may continue to be left out of the land titling process.
GLA continues to promote the idea that women have rights to land through their unpaid care work (Economy of care), which plays a critical role in the maintenance and support of a country's workforce.
