GLA Engagement in Haiti

This past month, Global Land Alliance began work with the Comité Interministériel d’Aménagement du Territoire (CIAT) on a study to examine the relationship between land tenure security and agricultural land use in Haiti, in support of the Rural Land Tenure Security Project financed by the Inter-American Development Bank.

This study uses data collected during Phase I of the PSFMR project along with aerial imagery and household surveys to examine how land tenure security affects farmers’ agricultural decisions in rural Haiti. i.e. does having a secure title make a landowner more inclined to make long-term investments such as perennial plantations or higher-value crops for export?

Daniel Roberge and Cynthia Berning lead the project for Global Land Alliance, working with British-based firm INSUCO and a team of international and local agriculture and land professionals. We are excited to continue Global Land Alliance’s relationship with the Haitian Government’s land agency and to better understand the intersection of rural land tenure security and land use in this setting.
