‘Defending Democracy in Brazil’ Event in DC
Last night Theresa Williamson and Catalytic Communities, partners of the Global Land Alliance and the GLA CLT Center, hosted a fundraiser entitled Defend Democracy In Brazil: Politics and Music at Busboys and Poets.
Joining Williamson was Sports Editor of The Nation and author of “Brazil’s Dance With the Devil: The World Cup, The Olympics, and the Fight for Democracy,” Dave Zirin, and Georgetown Brazil historian and author of “Hard Times in the Marvelous City: From Dictatorship to Democracy in the Favelas,” Bryan McCann— and beautiful live samba and forró of Pablo Regis!
Williamson spoke about the current political situation in Brazil and how it affects the work of Catalytic Communities as they work in favelas, communities extremely vulnerable to policies of the Bolsonaro administration.
“There’s nothing more important than international solidarity” Theresa Williamson reminds us all. Read more about the work in Rio at www.rioonwatch.org
